Baptiste Olivier was born in 1977 in Léognan just south of Bordeaux. (The village of Premiers Cru Chateau Haut-Brion). His immediate family were not winegrowers. He has described the role good food and wine played in his childhood, as follows "Coming from a family passionate about wine and good food, I still remember the big family meals and cheerful and dionysian atmosphere that prevailed there".

Oliviers plans for the future led to admission to Ecole nationale supérieure Agronomic de Montpellier in order to get the highest oenological education as Viticulture-oenologie + Diplôme national d'oenologue
During his studies, he was a trainee at Domaine de Bablut in the Loire Valley.

After graduating in 2002 he had shorter stays in California (Shug Carneros Estate Winery) in South Australia (Poet's Corner) and only a few kilometers from his parents home at Château Smith Haut Lafitte.
He also conducted a terroir study for the Syndicat of Cotes du Rhone, and it was during this work, he decided to work with Rhone wines.

His first actual recruitment was at the negociant Louis Bernard in Orange (Now in Gigondas). Here he was responsible for advising suppliers.
This experience gave me the passion of the wine growers and the importance of team working, the fact that working together permits to go further.” He also got the technical responsibility for the restructuring of Domaine de la Chartreuse Bonpas

In late 2004, he joined ICV (l'Institut Cooperatif du Vin) in Beaumes de Venise as Oenologue-Consultant. At the department in Beaumes de Venise, he has in 2016 5 colleagues, Philippe Cambie, Caroline Delmas, Roland Flores, Thomas Oui and Charlotte Slingue

The individual consultant makes an agreement with every single winegrower concerning the price to pay for the consulting.
It is not
a condition that the producer uses ICV's laboratory to undergo its analyzes. The syndicate of Chateauneuf du Pape has its own laboratory at the Maison du Vignerons 12,  Av. Louis Pasteur, which naturally are used by most members of the federation

Some laboratory analyzes are carried out to obtain a certificate for exports. Some markets such as US and Japan is quite demanding.
Other analyzes as the oenological counselor is trained to read are used in cooperation between the advisor and the winegrower, if necessary to correct deviations from the optimal parameters.

A winegrowers statement about the cooperation with Baptiste Olivier

" Before I met Baptiste, I tasted the wines of other estates in Chateauneuf du Pape appellation he followed. Rich powerful wines with balance and a lot of personality. Thus, Baptiste became our oenologist from the 2012 vintage.
His knowledge and enthusiasm are a real asset but sharing and listning are his main qualities to respect the identity of the domain.
Together we have eksperienced new winemaking teckniques, new types of ageing which have helped to improve some wines.
A choice without any regret and a collaboration that I hope will last a long time"

Negociant project

Through cooperation with the producers, it is very common for an oenological advisor to run a negociant business in addition to his consulting work. In 2011 Baptiste Olivier with his colleague and friend Gérald Lafont created the company LORHÔNE selling wines from various appellations in Rhone under the brand name Olivier & Lafont
