Jérôme Malet is a winegrower from Perpignan in Roussillon.
Since 1992 he has owned Domaine Sarda
Malet, a family domain of 46 ha.
Frédéric Engerer is the director of Chateau
Latour in Pauillac and in a firm in Burgondy bought by Latour in 2006,
Domaine d’Eugénie
in Vosne-Romanée.
In 2008 Jérôme Malet and Frédéric Engerer together
bought the place in Montbrison-sur-Lez. They have
been
friends from their childhood.
The property covers 42 ha of which 14 ha are planted with vines. By the
purchase around 8 ha were with 70-years-old Grenache and 3 ha. with
30-years-old Syrah. In 2008 1 ha were planted with Roussanne
and Viognier and in 2009 further 0.7 ha. were planted with Cabernet
Saugvignon
From 2013 the vineyards will be certified agriculture
biologique.
New cellars were ready in time for the harvest of 2009 .
The management of vineyards and cellar is in the hands of the
oenological educated Sophie Mage.
Wines
Cotes du Rhone Domaine de Fontbonau
2009: Grenache (22 hl./ha.) and Syrah (10 hl./ha.)
Aged in barriques or demi-muids used for a year at Latour. 10% of the
barrels are new.
Cotes du Rhone Les Chaux de Fontbonau
Second wine from the domain. Same vinification process as for the
premier cuvée.
Cotes du Rhone Blanc La Lence de Fontbonau
2011: Roussanne and Viognier. Debut 2011.
