Gabriel Meffre was born in a wine grower family, but no one could foresee that he - when he founded a negociantfirm in 1936 - would become the owner of the biggest amount of hectares of AOC-vines in France - more than 900 ha - before his disease in 1987.
After the disease of Gabriel Meffre his empire was divided between his inheritants.
His daughter Sylvette - married Brechet - became the owner of Chateau de Vaudieu in Chateauneuf du Pape
and Domaine du Bosquet in Gigondas
His son Christian Meffre inherited Chateau Raspail and other properties.
His oldest son Jacques got Bois des Dames in Violes and other properties in Chateauneuf du Pape (Valori) and Gigondas (Saint Anne and Daysse).
The heirs wanted to concentrate focus on the properties and the negociant firm was sold.

The negociant firm still uses the name Gabriel Meffre and has it's headquarter and cellars in Gigondas.
In 1998 the company went public, and everyone could buy shares
