The domain was established early 2015. The two brothers André and Jérôme who together had run Domaine Mathieu, decided to split the domain.
The Mathieu family has grown wine for centuries in Chateauneuf du Pape, and has previously been located 21, Rue Commandant Lemaitre.  
Domaine de Saje is now based on approx. 1/3 of the vineyards from Domaine Mathieu and covers 6.5 ha of Chateauneuf du Pape and 2 ha. of Cotes du Rhone.
All vines are 80
-years or older.
The first
vintage from the new domain was 2015.

Chateauneuf du Pape
2018: 80% Grenache and 20% of other allowed varieties.

Chateauneuf du Pape 1600
2016: 60% Counoise, 25% Grenache, 15% other varieties. Debut 2016.
(Counoise constitutes a total of less than 0.5% of the varieties in the appellation, and most occurs on mixed-planted parcels, as in the case of this domain, which, however has a larger proportion of this variety used for this interesting cuvée)

Chateauneuf du Pape Marquis Anselme Mathieu
2018: 82% Grenache, 6% Mourvedre and 1% of other allowed varieties.

Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc
2019: 100% Clairette

Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Marquis Anselme Mathieu
2019: Grenache Blanc, Roussanne Clairette, Picpoul.
Fermented in demi-muids

Cotes du Rhone
2017: 55% Grenache and 45% Syrah.


The concrete tanks are painted on the wall but the taps opens for wine from the old tanks under the ground in the room behind the wall.


Old foudres and a few barrels is used for ageing
