Neil Joyce is English. He married a French
woman Béatrice. The couple lived for many years in Paris. Béatrice
worked as a lawyer and Neil made a fortune by working with soap dispencers.
Some years ago they decided to live another life. They wanted to make wines in
Provence. At first they bougt a very beautiful place in Saint-Etienne-du-Grès
Chateau
Dalmeran.
After a few years they started to search for a place in a bit more prestigeous
appellation and found a mas in Chateauneuf du Pape with 10 hectares of vineyards
with vines planted in 1918-1920 and with quite big old buildings in a state of
disrepair. The place belonged to a 95-years-old lady who had decided to sell
because the producer who had rented her vineyards was not interested anymore.
People in Chateauneuf wanted to buy the land but not the buildings and then the
place was available for Neil Joyce who could be approved as a buyer as he owned
another winery.
The
buildings was totally renovated and modern cellars were constructed within
the frame of the old buildings.
The cellars are capable of making more wine than what can be produced
from the 10 ha of Chateauneuf du Pape and 6 ha of Vin de Pays. Therefore
or because of Mr. Joyce made an agreement with another winegrower who used to sell
the grapes to a cooperative the production was added with wine from 6 ha. Chateauneuf du
Pape (lieu-dit Valori) and 3 ha of Cotes du Rhone.
The vineyards have been certified agriculture biologique since 2013.
