Both Alexander's parents belong to well-known Chateauneuf families. His mother Marie-Paule was born Sabon, and her father, Noël Sabon, owned the domain from 1950-1975. Marie Paule married Christian Favier, and the couple ran the property from 1975 until Christian got health problems in 2002 and let his Alexandre to take over responsibility. He had just completed a 5-year oenological education.
Alexandre Favier was only 20 years old when he was left responsible for the relatively large domain of 45
ha of Chateauneuf du Pape, 3 ha of Cotes du Rhone on Plan de Dieu and 7 ha of IGP in Travaillan.
