AOP Cotes du Rhone Village
1737: The king of France ordered that casks of
wine shipped from the nearby river port of Roquemaure should be branded
with the letters CDR to introduce a system of protecting its origin.
1937: AOC Cotes du Rhone
was created by the initiative of Baron le Roy de Boiseamaure, who was
also motoring the creation of two of the first appellations in France,
Chateauneuf du Pape and Tavel, in 1936.
In 2011 Cotes du Rhone can be made from vineyards in 171
communes.
1966: AOC Cotes du Rhone Village was created.
In 2011 Cotes du Rhone Village can be made from selected vineyards in 95
communes
In 2011 producers in 17 areas can add a name of a commune or an area to
the Cotes du Rhone Village appellation name, f.i. Cotes du Rhone
Village Plan de Dieu or Cotes du Rhone Village Sablet.

the aim to inform the producers about news concerning the rules
of the appellations, local wine competitions and actuel
statistic information.
Inter
Rhône is a joined, inter, organ for
Cotes du Rhone appellations and other appellations in Vallée
du Rhone (Ventoux, Luberon, Costières du Nimes, Cotes du
Vivarais and Grignan-les-Adhémar).
The aim of the organisation is to promote the wines from the
area and to inform tourists
Every year a publication Ciffres Clès with statistic
information is published.
