When Philippe's father Charles Bravay ran the
domain an offical name of the domain was not needed as he sold nearly all the
production in tank to negociant. In legal documents the domain was just named
EARL Charle Bravay (Charle is French form of Charles).
In 1995 Philippe took over from his father. He kept the compagny name but when
he from 1997 started to bottle most of the wines he choose Domaine de Ferrand as
the name of the wines. The name Ferrand is not refering to a family member but
to a name connected to the place since many years back.
The estate covers 5,5 ha of Chateauneuf du Pape. The vines
were planted in 1910 and
1930 at the two lieux-dits
Cabrières and La
Gardiole both located in the
northern part of the appellation. Around
the property lies a further 10
ha of Cotes du Rhone.
The three cuvées of Cotes du Rhone from the domain are very different but so
are the prices and you will find a very reasonable relation between price and
quality.
