The domain was established early
2015. The two brothers André, Jérôme
who together have driven Domaine
Mathieu, decided to split the domain.
The Mathieu family has grown
wine for centuries in Chateauneuf du
Pape, and has previously been located
21, Rue Commandant Lemaitre.
The old cellar here was used for ageing
the wines from Domaine Mathieu until
1976.
Domaine de Saje is
now based on approx. 1/3 of the vineyards
from Domaine Mathieu and covers 6.5 ha of
Chateauneuf du Pape and 2 ha. of Cotes du Rhone.
All vines are 80-years
or older.
The first vintage from
the new domain was 2015.
