Frédéric Chastan's grandparents
founded the domain in
the 1950s. His grandfather André
Chastain came from a wine
growing family in Vacqueyras
and his wife
Pauline from a
similar family in Gigondas.
The couple decided to buy vineyards
in Orange based
on Cotes du Rhone
vineyards located to the north of AOP
Chateauneuf du Pape.
They also built cellars and
made the wine themself.
Nearly all the wines were sold to negociant.
With time they inherited
vineyards of Gigondas and
Vacqueyras.
In 1980s when
their son Alain took
over the domain he bought
2.5 hectares in Chateauneuf
du Pape. In
addition to the 2.5 ha of
Chateauneuf du Pape the domain today
covers 5 ha of Gigondas
and 20 ha shared
equally between Vacqueyras and
Cotes du Rhone.
Until January 2011 father
and son, Alain and Frédéric
Chastan was co-owners.
In the beginning of 2011 Frédéric became the
owner and a few months later he
submitted a request to be certified
agriculture biologique which
all vineyards have
been since 2014.
The main part of the production are still sold in tank. The part bottled at the
domain goes through the very traditionel wine making process as mentioned below
for Chateauneuf du Pape and the wines are released 4-9 years after harvest. In

2010.
