Etienne
Guigal founded the firm in 1946. Marcel Guigal took over in 1961 when his
father got an illness making him blind. Today the 3. generation Philippe Guigal
is a partner of his father. Philippe is an educated oenologist
The family owns 60 ha, vineyards
in the northern Rhone, including famous parcels in Côte Rôtie
and Hermitage, from where expensive single parcel wines are made.
The main part of the production in the cellars in Ampuis are negociant
wines, and among them a range of wines from the southern Rhone
Guigal also controls two other negociant
firms in Rhone J.
Vidal Fleury (since 1984) and Ferraton
et Fils, both of them run as independant firms.
The use of barrels is so big (4000) that an own cooperage at the estate was
created in 2003.
The cooperage works in partnership with the cooperage
in Chagny managed by Seguin Moreau.
