The
Mayard family has been winegrowers
for 5 generations.
Clos du
Calvaire was founded by the grandparents of the owners today Marie Louise and Alphonse Mayard
who were
pioneers of sales in bottle.
Their sales register (dated
1923) shows a large commercial activity. The base of their domain was 17 ha at
lieu-dit Les Coulets.
The wine from these vineyards are called Clos du Calvaire. 8 ha.
at La Crau are delivering grapes for the signature wines of
the estate covering 43 hectares of Chateauneuf du Pape and less
than one ha of Cotes du Rhone.
Béatrice Mayard is the official responsible (gérant) manager of
the domain.
Françoise Roumieux is responcible for the vineyards and
the work in the cellar assisted by Alain Narjoux who for 13 years was
the winemaker at Vieux Télégraphe.
Didier Mayard has his own negociant firm, and are only responsible for
the share of wines from Vignobles Mayard sold in tank.
Since 2011 Philippe Cambie has been advising Alain and Françoise.
A complete renovation of all parts of the cellar has taken place
in 2010-2011.
