Jean Paul’s grandfather, Fernand, an important land-owner of numerous small parcels of vineyards, purchased the Mas Madagascar in 1932 with the goal of regrouping his parcels into a single stretch of land. Louis Cabanis, the son of Fernand and father of Jean Paul, continued the efforts of his father in selling off his more distant vineyards, and purchasing those close to and/or contiguous to the Mas.
In 1982 after finishing his studies of agriculture Jean Paul returned to the family domain to collaborate with his father and shortly after the work in the vineyards were done after organic principles.

Mas Madagascar covers 32 ha, of which 15 are with vines and now certified agriculture biologique.
Besides the vines there are small orchards of early-ripening apricot trees, some table grapes and 3 ha of olive trees.

In 2017 the son Nicolas has taken over from his father
