1890
a direct forefather Edmond Rabasse
started up a winegrower in Cairanne based on 3 hectares of
vineyards and fields with other crops. In
1925, he was succeeded by his son Marcel Rabasse. In
1950 Marcel's
daughter Jeanine Rabasse took over property. She
married Abel Charavin from Rasteu. The
name Rabasse Charavin was created, and the family-owned vineyards covered
20 ha in both
Cairanne and Rasteau and vines became
the only crop at the place. Jeanine
and Abel's daughter Corinne married
the son of a winegrover in Violes Jean Paul
Couturier. Mr Couturier has never worked at Domaine Rabasse Charavin.
Vineyards
from Plan de Dieu
and
Violès became by this mariage a part of Domaine Rabasse Charavin.
In 1984 Corinne Couturier took over
responsibility. Since 1993 her daughter Laura
has worked closely with her
mother, and in 2014 she officially
took over the
responsibility. 6th generation, Theophile Couturier, is
now working at the domain and his
sister Martha may join later.
The domain now covers 40 hectares and produces wines from 6
appellations.
Some parcels are 80-100-years-old and the average age ixs around 50 years.
Barrels are not used for ageing
of any cuvée in from the domain.
The vines are cultivated to some extent by biodynamic principles.
