Laurent Bellion's
great grandfather founded the property in 1919 growing céreales, fruit-
and olivetrees and in a small scale vines. His grandfather Ismael
increased the holdings, but it was his father Lucien Bellion, who made
vines the main crop delivering the grapes to the cooperative. In 1997
Laurent after having finished his agricultural education (BTA) joined his
father at the domain and three years later in 2000 he took over the domain
- still selling the grapes. After a decennium he decided to make the wines
himself and his first own made vintage was 2011. The
name of the domain was chosen from a local name of the
area,
but also to
bring associations: "I liked
the idea
of playing with
the word Eyguestre,
which means water.
Water is often
contrasted with wine
is produced but
it is also the
basis of the life
of the vineyard.
That is why I
chose to
drop my
field
The
property has a total of 20 ha of the
highest situated
vineyards in Seguret gathered around the domain. In 2016
grapes were delivered from 12 hectares to the cooperative while grapes
from 8 ha was
vinified by Laurent
Bellion in another producer's cellars. A portion of the wine
from the 8 ha were
sold to negociant.
