Until
2014 Chateau la Diffre was a part of Chateau la Courançonne,
which has been owned by the Meffre family for some generations.
In 2013-2014 the family's possessions was devided in to two
shares.
One part with the centre at Chateau Courançonne in
Violès and an other part with the centre at Chateau la Diffre in
Seguret.
The vineyards are also divided so
both domains are able to make wines from the same appellations as
it has been done from Chateau Courançonne.
Chateau La Diffre was created
in 1626 as a place for hunting and relaxation for noble families.
In 1878 it was purshased af Honoré Auphand who is the great
grandfathe of René Meffre b. 1931, who has been one of the
key persons in the proces of dividing Chateau Courançonne.
When a split of Couranconne in to two compagnies
was made and René felt it was time for retirement he turned to
his godson 28-years-old Michel Bres and asked him if he was ready
to give up his carrière as the director of some restaurants in
Paris and take over the responsability for Chateau La Diffre.
René Meffre has not any children and has always regarded Michel
Bres as his spiritual son.
After the split of
the Meffre family's
possessions Chateau
la Diffre covers
