Jacques Meffre is the son of the
legendary Gabriel Meffre who from a modest start as the owner of an
inherited domain in Gigondas Domaine de la Daysse was able to develope
his business to be one of the biggest owners of vineyards in France. His
empire covered around 900 ha and a quite big negocinant firm in Gigondas
(Gabriel Meffre)
In 1987 Gabriel Meffre passed away and his possessions were diveded
between his children.
His daughter Sylvette Brechet got Chateau de Vaudieu
and Domaine des Bosquets in
Gigondas.
His son Christian Meffre got the domains Chateau Raspail,
Chateau de Ruth (sold in 2009), Chateau Saint Jean.
The oldest son Jacques Meffre inherited the domains listed below. Today
they are run by Jacques' son Hugues Meffre
The
firm's wines are made at Domaine Bois des Dames, which is also the
company's administrative headquarter.
In total, the vineyards make up just over 200 ha. 9
ha of
Chateauneuf du Pape, 20 ha of
Gigondas and 190 ha of
Cotes du Rhone Village Plan de Dieu, Cotes du Rhone Village
and Cotes du Rhone. Originally the
vineyards on at
around Plan de Dieu were planted
almost exclusively with Grenache. Around 1980 they
planted Syrah, which makes up approx. 30% and in
recent years Mourvedre, where the goal is to reach 10%.

Chateauneuf du Pape
Domaine de Valori
60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre. Matured in
concrete for 24 month
9 ha at lieux-dit Valori in Courthezon purchased by Gabriel Meffre in
1935.
Gigondas Domaine de la Daysse
55% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre.
15 ha of Gigondas purchased by Gabriel Meffre in 1934.
The name Daysse is from an owner in the 18th century.
Gigondas Domaine Sainte Anne
80% Grenache and 20% Syrah.
5 ha owned by the Devin family for 250 eyars but have been vinified by
the Meffre family for 3 generations
Cotes du Rhone Village Plan de Dieu Domaine du Bois des Dames
65% Grenache, 30% Syrah og
5% Mourvedre.
An area of about 200 hectares at Plan de Dieu and nearby were purchased
by Gabriel Meffre in 1957. During the following 20 years or so the
frames for the firm in princip was made as they are today.
"Bois" is of course from an area with threes.
"Dames" relates to the owners (of the mostly vaste area)
before the French revolution - religious orders of nuns
Cotes du Rhone Village Domaine de l'Abbaye de Prébayon
70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre.
Cotes du Rhone Domaine de Dieumercy (Travaillan 90
ha)
75% Grenache and 25% Syrah.
The name Dieumercy were
created when Jaques Meffre shortly after his father's death survived a
serious heart dicease.

Hugues Meffre
is still a young man, but his only child Aurelie Meffre is
during education so that she can be able to run the quite big
firm - some day in the future. This photo is from La Table du
