The Lavau family for generations was involved in wine making in Tunisia.
In
1964, they
had to return to France and established a wine-growing company
in Rhone. After being in different villages, and after Benoit and Frederic Lavau assumed
responsibility for the company's activities in 2000, they built
a fairly large cellar in Violès, where the company's activities are gathered today.
Lavau
is the owner
(besides Maucoil, see below) 122 ha. vineyards
in southern Rhone located in Valreas (82 ha purchased in 2009),
Rasteau (10 ha purchased in 2014) and Bagnols-sur-Ceze (30 ha
purchased in 2011). They
buy grapes from approx. 350 producers.
Until 2009, all the wine produced was sold in tank but since then an
increasing share of production has been bottled under the brand LAVAU.
In
principle, a negociant buys wines from producers. The number of thought on the spot indicates that you win wine to an extent
that leads the thought of a cooperative and, as you buy grapes,
this gives a true picture.
It is stated on the spot that, according to EU definitions, the firm is a producer, whereas in French terms it's
a negociant.
In
2013, the company merged with Chateau Maucoil in Chateauneuf du
Pape. It
is stated by the company that consumers will not experience
changes regarding names
or style of the wines from Maucoil. All employees at Maucoil continue their work and the former owner of Maucoil,
Bénédicte Bonnet, is part of the management of Lavau and in charge of parts of the export from the company.
