Meffre was born in a wine grower family, but no one could foresee that he
- when he founded a negociantfirm in 1936 - would become the owner of the
biggest amount of hectares of AOC-vines in France - more than 900 ha -
before his decease in 1987. After the death of Gabriel Meffre his empire
was divided between his three children:
