Images from Foire aux vins d'Uzès 8.-10. August 2014

This Foire aux Vins in Uzès was number 39, so it's an old tradition.
56 wine growers were participating, mostly coming from Gard.
Three from Cheteauneuf du Pape had crossed the Rhone to be there
Some participants were from northern Gard and presented their wines from Cotes du Rhone. Of course there were many more local producers from the IGP-area of southern Gard. Some of those producers (around 15) brought wines from the new appellation Duchés d'Uzès which were presented for the first time at the Foire as 2012 was the first vintage of this name. These wines have before been IGP wines,
most probably
IGP Coteaux du Pont du Gard. Only one producer presented wines from this IGP appellation, Domaine les Cabotines in Collias. Collias is not included in the new appellation covering 77 communes.
This is a number you can compare with the number of communes inside the appellation Cotes du Rhone Village (around 95), and you might say that the quality level might be comparable. I would say after tasting these wines, that they are comparable with Cotes du Rhone Village with a commune name.
I must add that I think I met the best part of the producers making Duché d'Uzès with domain name just now.
To me personally the Best Wine in Show was IGP d'Oc Cuvée Béa 2010 from Domaine du Grand Chemin. It's made from a special range of varieties: Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot og Marsellan.
The fair took place at an explanade between two streets in the centre of Uzès. On Saturday there was also a market nearby, so the streets were rather crowded.
